A manifesto is a published verbal declaration of intention, motives or views of the issuer. Be it a group or individual. A training manifesto is the guidelines that you set for you training process it is a collection of ideas, concepts and statements that describe your training.
Why is it Good to have?
It forces you to sit and think about your own training, what’s important and what’s not. You have to define it and put it into words and therefore you filter out the unnecessary stuff. You can then reference back to see if you are still on course with what you are doing.
Your goals can keep you on track, but this is bigger than your goals. Your goals is an outcome. The manifesto represents your Why.
It can be a simple collection of 3 or 4 statements or it can be a large all-encompassing thing. Mine includes some lifestyle segments this is because for me movement extends beyond training sessions. Training extends beyond a session that you do. It is part of our lifestyles, for me it is a very large part of it. It is a collection of practices that I want to incorporate into my life to ensure that I’m functioning optimally and that I keep levelling up.
It took me a while to get to my current manifesto and in looking at it regularly it has evolved. Things added, things removed. In its current form I think it covers everything I want to target with my own training. It is important to note that this is for my own training, it is not universally applicable to everyone’s training. Parts of it yes, I use a lot of these concepts in the training of the people I train. We have things in common and we differ in some aspects. We are same same but different and our manifestos should be as well.
So take some think about why you go to the gym, or run or do yoga. Why do you do what you do? Is what you are doing taking you closer to what you want to achieve?
