The book, Mastery and Llewellyn’s article about tracking progress inspired me to write this post. Life in general is a process. A process of trial and error. You gain experience from it. In life we all have a goal that we work towards and want to reach. It might be to finish your degree, to be selected for a sports team or meet your goals in the gym or to lose weight. The process that you will experience to reach that goal is going to have setbacks and obstacles. In this process you will get to a place where you want to give up or you doubt your ability. At this stage you must remember these words “TRUST THE PROCESS”.
What is a process?
It is in our human nature we strive towards something. Everyone has a goal. The process to reach your goals is going to be filled with obstacles. You are going to experience setbacks. It might be minor or major setbacks. Others might experience their process easier than you do. There will come a time where you feel that you are not good enough. You will doubt your ability. At this point the right mind-set will get you through.
What must your mind set be?
Tracking your progress will give you an overview of where you have failed and where you succeeded. You can see what worked and what did not work. It will show you all the hard work you had put in. Through tracking progress you will know where your weakness is and where to make adjustments.
Don’t doubt yourself. Life is filled with obstacles. Giving up on an obstacle will not solve the problem. Always look back on the hard work you have put in and remember your goals. Stay focussed and believe that all your hard work and experience will pay off at the end of the day.
Be honest with yourself. You can bullshit others, but never yourself. Be honest where you made a mistake or did not give your best. Blaming others will not solve your problems. Look within yourself first before you give the blame to others. Through honesty you will know where your weakness are.
You’ve got to work hard and push yourself. You might struggle to pass a ball right. Then you’ve got to practice it numerous times to improve it. You might struggle to resist eating unhealthy food. Then put in that extra effort to eat healthy. The only way you will improve is by repeatedly working hard to improve your weaknesses.
Be realistic. Set goals that you know you can reach. By reaching those goals you will start building momentum.
Know your worth. You will know if you gave your best or not. Do not let others opinions negatively influence you and your process.
Trust your process
Life is ever-changing. A few obstacle and disappointments do not define who you are. Keep on working on your weakness, push yourself to become better every day Kaizen and embrace the process called life.
