Small victories build momentum. With continued small victories we build the momentum for the completion of the bigger task. It is the small steps that make up the journey. Too many times we focus on the big things, it is the small things done well that set up the success in the bigger goals.
Success builds on success and we can engineer our own success by doing something every day that is seen as a win, to help you in the direction of your goal. Daily rituals and routine. Want to build your discipline, make your bed every morning. In doing this every day you are creating a habit, starting the day with a win. Creating some order. Most importantly you are exercising discipline which builds momentum and transfers to other areas. Having the discipline to make your bed transfers to having the discipline to train 3-4 times per week, to eat green veggies with every dinner. It doesn’t have to be making your bed it could be anything that you can do consistently and is seen as a positive influence. It could be:
Eating a healthy breakfast every morning
Drinking a glass of water when you wake up
Writing in a journal
Taking a cold shower
It is not about the action it is about the intent of action.
Does it have a positive influence on your day?
Does it create success?
Sometimes pairing a thing that you like with something you don’t necessarily want to do helps you get it done. I do not enjoy getting up early, but if I get up early and run through the things I have to do for the day. My day goes better. So I pair this with coffee, because I Love coffee.
My morning routine looks like this
05:00 Wake up
05:05 Have a glass of Water with lime juice and Himalayan salt
05:10 Drink coffee, run through the day, stretch and mobilize
05:20 Get ready and leave for work
The moral of the story is this
Use small tasks to build momentum for bigger successes. Pair existing enjoyable habits with new or challenging ones to help you in getting it done.
