It’s that time of year where everything starts winding down. Michael Bublé has left his cave and Christmas music is playing in every shopping centre. The classic Christmas movies like Die hard and Lethal Weapon will be on TV soon. It’s that magical time of year.
Most people take some time off from their standard day to day grind around this time, but what does this mean for our progress, goals and our physical and mental development. A break can be a powerful thing. A holiday can be a refresher, a reset button of sorts. An opportunity to refocus and come back better, with renewed energy increased focus and intense determination.
Take a break, but not from your vision…
A holiday is a great time to take a step back from what you’re currently doing and look at it from a distance so to speak. For many of us we get caught in our day to day grind. Putting shoulder to the grindstone getting work done, but not truly reflecting on the bigger picture of what we are doing. A break distances you from your day to day and allows you the opportunity to evaluate your process. To celebrate your successes and take ownership of your short comings. When we have a holiday we step out of our usual day to day process, but we shouldn’t take a break from our goals. It shouldn’t set you back on your path. Yes, have fun. Let your hair down, but don’t sabotage your progress. You can sabotage months of work with a few days of crazy eating and drinking. Is it worth it? If the answer is yes then your goals aren’t that important to you.
So what do I do with my holiday?
Enjoy it. Have fun with family and friends. Do the things you don’t normally get to do throughout the year.
Move more. Play games, go to the beach, hike, run, play volleyball, touch rugby, swim, slack line. The possibilities are endless. It is summer here in the southern hemisphere, so enjoy the sunshine. If you’re in the northern hemisphere, build a snowman, go skiing and do other fun winter activities.
Stay active but get out of your standard training routine, getting away from it but staying active will refresh you to hit it hard in the New Year.
Evaluate. Think about you everyday process think about the good and the bad. Where you are with your goals and where you want to be when last did you revisit your goals.
That is it. Pretty simple but very necessary. Have fun, keep moving, and don’t forget the big picture. Your holiday should leave you hungry to get back to working towards your goals.
We at Enso Movement Culture are also taking a short break, for all of the above reasons. It has been a great 2016 for us and we appreciate everyone who takes the time to visit our website, read, like and share our posts. I am looking forward to taking a break, but I can’t wait to get back at it next year. We have lots things planned and we are excited about where we are headed and what the future holds. Thank you for joining us on this journey.
So have a great festive season and a happy new year. Enjoy the break and let’s come back with a bang and kick 2017 in the dick!
Stay savage, but classy.
