What does it mean to have purpose? How do we define purpose? What sets it apart from motivation, will power, goals and the like?
Purpose is your why. It’s the reason behind your actions.
“Purpose is having a flamethrower everywhere you go and starting your own fire whenever you want. It’s an intrinsic setting coded deep within the individual’s operating system. It’s also known as your why.” @getchimpy
This is the best description of purpose I’ve read. Your purpose is the why behind what you do. It is the reason for the actions you take. It’s why you live the life you do, train the way you do, eat what you eat. I think there are many people who haven’t really discovered their purpose, even more who truly haven’t even tried to do so. Discovering your purpose takes time and it will evolve. It might not actually end up being what you thought it was initially, but it evolves and grows with your journey. But for it to evolve and grow, it must be discovered. Too many people just do for the sake of doing. There’s no thought because it’s difficult, so they just do what everyone else does with no thought or reason. This is apparent in all aspects of life.
In training and gym culture, you see it in the mindlessness of exercising. Doing movements for sets and reps repetitively with minimal question of why. I train because I don’t want to be fat. Not being fat might be motivation, but it’s not purpose. We need to do things with purpose behind it. This is the idea behind #purposebuilt.
We train to make ourselves more capable. To better pursue our purpose, our reason for being. The why behind the action.
#purposebuilt is not only for athletes, it’s for everyone who is here to do something with their time on this pale blue dot spinning in a solar system, in a galaxy, in a universe.
Training to manage your stress and develop your mental toughness to help you reach your business goals is #purposebuilt.
Training to be strong enough to carry packs and climb mountains because you want to explore and see all the magic that nature has to offer is #purposebuilt.
Training and practicing your sport relentlessly in order to be the best at what you do is #purposebuilt
It is training your body and your mind to be built for an express purpose, and that purpose is YOUR WHY! It is your reason for doing what you are doing. It is the thing that gets you out of bed early in the morning to train, it is the why that makes you finish reading that book that will help you develop new skills to help you on your journey. It is that focus that helps you develop the habits and practices that gets you closer to achieving your goals.
#purposebuilts is …
… doing things for a reason.
… working to feed a greater outcome.
… developing the attributes for your success.
… putting in work when you don’t want to.
… not mindless.
… is building your fucking flamethrower!
Your purpose is yours to find. Just like your body is yours to take care of. #purposebuilt is a movement to drive focus into developing your body for a reason. A reason more than just aesthetics and show, more than just moving weight around. For most people, all that going to the gym is, is fake work that we give ourselves to keep our bodies in a reasonable shape because our lives aren’t that physically demanding. You don’t need to go to gym to be #purposebuilt. You don’t need to lift the heaviest weight to be #purposebuilt. You don’t have to run for kilometres to be #purposebuilt. It depends on you.
Find your purpose! We are here to help you be #purposebuilt.
